Starting from Houeixay near Thailand, you soak up the nature in two days cruising along the mighty Mekong River and explore the delightful town of Luang Prabang with Phousi hill, Wat Xiengthong and National Museum. The mysterious plain of jars and the sleepy town of Vientiane are also included in your adventure. |

DETAILED ITINERARY |
|
Day 1: Thailand - Houeixai - Pakbeng (B,L)
Leave Houey Xay on the Thai border for a leisurely cruise on a local boat down the Mekong to Pakbeng. Several stops along the way offer the opportunity to sample rural life in the villages scattered along the riverbank and enjoy a riverside picnic. Arrive in Pakbeng in the afternoon. O/N in Pakbeng
Day 2: Luang Prabang - Pakou Caves or Tam Ting Cave - Luang Prabang (B,L)
Rise early at dawn to experience life as a local by watching monks in saffron robes going on their Alms Collection before visiting the local fresh market. Soak in the history of Luang Prabang at the Royal Palace, now the National Museum, Wat Visoun with its iconic Watermelon Stupa and Wat Aham. Watch the adept skills of weavers as they demonstrate the significance of Silk Weaving in Lao culture at the Ock Pop Tok gallery where you will be inspired to design your own scarf.
Afternoon, gently cruise down Mekong River to admire the startling collection of gold-lacquered Buddha statues of all shapes and sizes nestled deep in the massive limestone caverns of the Pak Ou Caves. Free Traditional Laos Message. O/N in Luang Prabang.
Day 3: Luang Prabang - Khouang Si Waterfall - Luang Prabang (B)
ery special (optional) dawn visit before breakfast to witness the long lines of orange-robed monks leaving their pagodas to receive offerings of food from Luang Prabang residents. Return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, enjoy a visit to Kuang Si Waterfall, south
west of Luang Prabang with stops en-route to visit some ethnic minority villages. It is possible to walk to the top of the falls via a steep track and if the weather is good swim in the clear water at the foot of
the falls. Return to Luang Prabang. Rest of the afternoon free at leisure. O/N in Luang Prabang.
Day 4: Luang Prabang - Xieng Khouang - Phonsavanh - By Car 250 Kms (B)
By road we depart this morning to Xieng Khouang, home to the amazing Plain of Jars. Traveling trough high mountains and karts formations, we have time to stop and visit remote dwellings of ethnic minority villages. Probably you will notice that many houses have looms underneath with which the family's clothes, bags and accessories are manufactured. Late afternoon we'll arrive at Phonsavan, the capital of the Xieng Khoung province. O/N in Phonsavanh.
Day 5: Xieng Khouang - Vang Vieng (B)
Heading out of town we set forth to visit the "Plan of Jars", an impressive archaeological site where hundreds of large stone jars are littered all over the plateau. These huge jars are supposedly over 2,000 years old, but most of archaeologists are still mystified about their purpose. We follow it with a trip to the province's old capital of Muang Khun and the nearby villages. They are home of the Hmong People who are very poor but possess an interesting local culture and a colourful history. Mid-morning depart for a drive down spectacular Route 13 towards Vang
Vieng. Continue to Vang Vieng, nestled along the Nam Song River and framed by
spectacular karst formations housing numerous caves. Visit Tham Jam Cave in the afternoon and stroll through town along the Namsong River.O/N in Vang Vieng
